Technology Complacency - Not on My Watch

One of the best parts about continuing education (CE) is learning new techniques and learning about new materials. One of the secondary effects of being actively involved in organized dentistry is knowing people when you attend meetings. Recently, I was at the Lone Star Dental Conference held at the Westin in the Domain (Austin, TX). At LSDC, I had time to catch up with my fellow UTSD 2008 graduate Melissa Lent. She was telling me about the merits of the modern light cures that are now available. Some of the light cures can now achieve complete polymerization of the composite in 5-10 seconds, which used to take 30-40 seconds. This may not seem significant. But when a considerable amount of your day is spent waiting for a light to finish the composite you just placed, then, you start to understand after placing thousands of these types of fillings the time becomes significant. Additionally, the new unit I have placed an order for is cordless. The cord can be a nuisance and this should also be a boon.

Thanks for the tip, Missy :)!
